Leadership TEAM
Allison Corbett (she/her)
Co-director | Allison Corbett is a Spanish-English interpreter, language justice consultant, and oral historian from Virginia who has been based in NYC since 2013 and Brooklyn since 2020. She has over 15 years of experience interpreting in settings ranging from hospitals as a Certified Healthcare Interpreter, to grassroots community meetings and workshops. In 2016, she created The Language of Justice, an oral history project to document the experiences of language workers. In the last several years, she has focused her efforts on capacity-building work to support institutions in engaging and serving multilingual communities.
She is also one half of the collaboration Decentering Dominance.

Gloria Delgadillo (they/them)
Co-director | Gloria Delgadillo, pronouns they/them and elle in Spanish, is a queer Mexican immigrant raised in Texas currently living in Brooklyn, New York. They’re a trained linguist, interpreter, translator and Language Justice (LJ) worker. Gloria’s work is led by their deep, complicated and curious relationship they’ve had with language(s) throughout their life —from having to interpret for their family at a young age to finding the words to describe their queerness in Spanish and English. In 2019 they co-founded Comal, an LJ collective in North Texas as a way to organize interpreters working in movement spaces, and to increase language access in the area. Gloria’s work includes collaborating with people and organizations who have an interest in dismantling linguicism in their spaces. They’re also getting their MA in Spanish Translation & Interpreting from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Ahmed Ahmed (He/him)
Trainer | Ahmed Ahmed is a professional interpreter/translator with 10 years of work experience in the field of vulnerable migrants and refugees. Ahmed is a Cairo Community Interpreter Project (CCIP) advisory board member and alumni. Ahmed is originally from East Africa, and spent some of his life in the Middle East where he worked with non-profit organizations such as Saint Andrew's Refugee Services (StARS) and UN Migration Agency before he joined Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Ahmed has also served as interpreter and translator in Arabic, Tigrinya and English for different institutions.
Ahmed received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Cairo University in 2014 and earned a Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate in 2021. He got his training in community interpretation from American University in Cairo.
TONY MACIAS (He/him)
Trainer & tilde Education Fund liaison | A native of the US south, Tony is an interpreter/translator and popular education trainer with over 20 years of experience in the labor, migration, and international solidarity sectors.
He served as one of the coordinators of the 2010 US Social Forum Language Justice Team, and then went on to co-found the Austin Language Justice Collective and the tilde Language Justice Cooperative.
He is an American Translators Association Certified Translator, and a member of CATI- the Carolina Association of Translators and Interpreters. He has worked nationwide and internationally with organizations and language workers to bring skills to our movements.

Roberto Tijerina (HE/HIM)
Trainer | Roberto Tijerina is a queer, Latino, first-generation child of immigrants, organizer and keeper of the heart-space. Since becoming politicized in his early adolescence, Roberto has worked as an organizer connecting his queer, immigrant, multilingual experience to broader racial, economic, and gender justice movements. His experience includes working for Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, Highlander Research and Education Center, the Audre Lorde Project, and Southerners on New Ground (SONG).
Learning at the feet of many and by doing the work, he has helped to develop a Language Justice frame and lens that is informing current movement work. His political north star has always been the question: “Are you willing to be transformed in the service of the work?”
José Angel Romero (they/them)
Co-founding project member | José is a bilingual (EN/ES) nonbinary Mexican/Salvadoran living with HIV. José was born in Washington and evolved as an abolitionist thanks to Black, Latina, and Queer femmes between there and North Carolina. Their Spanish-language contracting experience began in 2015 and their work with the tilde LJ cooperative since 2017 has been pivotal. Their HIV Language Justice work began in 2018, but meeting Marco Castro Bojórquez in 2019 crystallized it in their heart. José is Director of C.A.R.E. at the Pride Foundation, founder of Nectar Consulting, and their proudest moments are making black, brown, and trans folks laugh.
